Apparently, some Hip-Hop fans are fuming because Iggy Azalea took home “Rap Artist” and “Rap Song” (for “Fancy”) at last Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards (as well as Top Streaming Artist) and a petition has been started on Change.org and has garnered as of Saturday, March 23rd, nearly 14,500 signatures.
According to the first petitioner, Billboard broke their own rules by nominating and awarding “Fancy”, claiming the song had come out before the eligibility period. Eligibility for the 2015 award show was March 2014 through February 2015 and “Fancy” got released in February 2014. Technically, the song was just eligible to the 2014 ceremony.
The petitioners are claiming “Anaconda”, by Nicki Minaj, which was also nominated in that category, was hurt by “Fancy” irregular nomination, and should’ve become the winner.
Billboard has not addressed this matter, and probably won’t. (As this is pure stupidity anyway).
HATERS GONNA HATE.
